Let me start off this post by saying that it was hard for me to decide whether to call this post “Where to Eat” or “Where to Drink” because the food and he drinks were equally unique and memorable. I decided to go with the drinks because it’s rare that it takes me 20 minutes to pick out which cocktail due to too many good options.
Governor feels like a big farmhouse, with high ceilings and a loft space over looking the iron and wood tables and open kitchen. Like sister restaurant Colonie, the decor includes a giant green garden wall, and wood milk crates line the ceiling and walls. The front of the restaurant features a bar space, where the expertly-mixed cocktails are born. And while there’s an extensive wine list and a variety of local beers on tap, the cocktails are the way to go, with any of them worth a sip.
My recommendations: order the Cool Hunt Club, a mix of cucumber and vodka (green and refreshing) or The Governor’s Lady– a concoction of gin and beet juice infused St. Germain. I know, beet sounds weird, but it doesn’t taste particularly beety. Just don’t forget to pair your drinks with freshly made bread and in-house churned butter, fried blowfish tails, and tomato tartare.
Visit Governor at 15 Main Street in Dumbo– it’s the perfect addition to the bar culture of the neighborhood.
