I’ve found it. My new favorite coffee shop– Smith Canteen. Kerry Diamond and Rob Newton, the owners of Seersucker (one of the best Southern-style eateries in the city), opened the cafe just a couple weeks ago. Smith Canteen is serving up perfectly baked pastries, muffins, and other baked treats, as well as a selection of sandwiches, soups, and of course– Counter Culture Coffee. I highly recommend the strawberry muffins and red velvet macarons, but the almond croissants and homemade poptarts can’t be missed!
The decor of the space is almost (I said almost) as good as the muffins– with a simple and comfortable style. In fact, the cafe used to be a pharmacy, so Kerry and Rob chose to keep some of the original details like the shelving, tin ceiling, and tile floors. Smith Canteen is located at 343 Smith Street, just down the block from Seersucker. Make sure to stop in for your next caffeine fix.
