Zombie Hut: The Ultimate Outdoor Drink Spot

Summer is officially here, and to me that means outdoor dining and drinking. For a night out on a giant backyard patio with plenty of tropical drinks and board games, check out Zombie Hut. You’ll feel like you’ve gone on an island-esque escape with the tiki decor and drinks like the Bahama Mamas, the Blue Hawaiian, and the Frozen Zombie.

Unlike many outdoor gardens and patios, the Zombie Hut has plenty of outdoor space, making it perfect for larger groups. Of course, the big tiki bowls add to the group atmosphere too. Bonus: they now serve the new Sixpoint cans.

The Calexico Cart is Back at Pier 1

It’s time to fill your belly with chipotle pork burritos, carne asada tacos, and bean quesadillas– the Calexico Cart is Back at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1. Grab your fave, add some extra guac, and park yourself in front of the beautiful view of Downtown Manhattan.

Nothing says Sunday brunch like a spicy bloody mary, and I’ve found the perfect one to top off this Memorial Day Weekend, at Olea in Fort Greene. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the Greek Isles as you enjoy the Mediterranean-style brunch menu and mid-day cocktail list. Give the Turkish Breakfast a try, or eggs scrambled with fresh cilantro, tomato, red onion, eggplant salad, herbed yogurt, and grilled pita bread. But no matter what you order, don’t leave without trying the bloody mary– it’s the perfect balance of heat and fresh tomato.

Bonus tip! After Olea, head over to the Brooklyn Flea, just a couple blocks away to score some amazing vintage flea finds.

Where to Eat Right Now: Cafecito Bogota

Attention Brooklynites– here is your go-to restaurant for the summer– Cafecito Bogota. The eatery boasts flavorful Colombian fare, with dishes like coconut shrimp, spicy chorizo, and their specialty– a variety of mounted arepas. Never had an arepa? It’s a flatbread made of white Hominy corn, slowly grilled, and topped with cheese, and meat or veggies. I recommend the Calena Arepa, which is topped with shrimp and plantains. Along with the authentic Colombian cuisine, enjoy the drink specials, including $5 sangria (perfect for summer drinking).

Cafecito Bogota also offers a fabulous brunch deal– just $14.50 for three refills of one of their exotic drinks, plus an entree like shrimp and eggs, a Colombian Chorizo sandwich, and of course, arepas. Visit Cafecito Bogota at 1015 Manhattan Ave. in Greenpoint for unique eats at low prices.

The Fourth Floor Print Shop is taking a little jab at Manhattan with this “Dear Manhattan, Sincerely Brooklyn Poster”– and I like it!
