Where to Shop Right Now: Eponymy

A sucker for a deal, I couldn’t help but buy a $75 Groupon deal for just $35 for local boutique Eponymy-- even though I had never been inside the shop. With just one visit, Eponymy jumped to the top of my list of the best boutiques in Brooklyn. What makes it so great? The owner, Andrea Millier, is dedicated to hand selecting pieces from modern collections like Mike & Chris and Kaylee Tankus, as well as vintage and designer resale pieces. I quickly fell in love with the uniqueness and wearability of the selection, making it the perfect spot to find a funky piece of jewelry or a statement dress, but also pick up staples like comfy tees and leggings.

To add to the adorable-ness of the shop, there’s a tiny white French Bulldog who watches over the store and charms you with its puppy dog stare. After trying on a pile of goods, I selected a Mink Pink top, and headed for the register. Before you leave, make sure to pick up one of Eponymy’s signature soaps, a yummy smelling addition to your apartment sink.

Shop the DUMBO Decorator Sale!

For this weekend only, Christopher Coleman Interior Design is holding a design warehouse sale full of gorgeous goodies for low prices. The usually empty space at 77 Front Street (near Washington) is filled with lighting, artwork, furniture, and other home pieces. Make sure to stop by the bank on the way, as no credit cards are accepted. Here’s the schedule:

Goodbye Bread and Butter, Welcome Seasons

Seasons, coming to 46 Henry Street

Brooklyn Heights restaurant Bread and Butter is papered up, and a new restaurant, Seasons, is moving in. According to Brooklyn Heights Blog, the owner of restaurant Picket Fence in Ditmas Park is taking over the new space. Bread and Butter survived the “restaurant row” of the neighborhood for just one year, with its opening in January 2010. Let’s hope Seasons has better luck.

Gorilla vs. Stumptown: Thoughts?

I’m usually a Stumptown Coffee girl, but I might have found something that rivals my fave brand– Gorilla Coffee. It’s a 100% independently owned and operated coffee shop and micro-roastery in Park Slope, at 97 5th Avenue. But you don’t have to go to Park Slope to buy yours. I purchased my “Finca Ceylan” blend at Foragers Market in Dumbo.

For those of you who have tried both, which do you like better, Stumptown or Gorilla?

Get the Perfect ‘Stache

Brooklyn-based Etsy seller “the secret stache” is keeping Brooklyn mustaches from falling out of place with an all natural ‘Stache Wax. Created by Simon Cleveland, the wax comes in three varieties, “sailor scent” (smells like rum), peppermint, and unscented. Each tin is $8. Get yours here!

Where to Brunch Right Now: Building on Bond

Casual and relaxed, but trendy and chic, Building on Bond screams Brooklyn. This brunch/dinner/bar spot is artfully designed, with differently-sized wood tables, repurposed metal pipes, and an eclectic assortment of knick-knacks. At your next brunch (how about tomorrow?) enjoy Cranberry Pecan French Toast, BBQ Pork Hash Benedict, or eggs over easy with grilled chorizo and homefries. Not in the mood for food? Stop by for a cocktail, like The Beehive, a concoction of Makers Mark bourbon, St.Germaine elderflower liqour, fresh lemon juice, muddled ginger, and honey, or the Building Manhattan, a mix of Old Overholt rye whiskey, Carpano Antica, and Peychaud Bitters.

Learn Something at the Brooklyn Brainery

Want to learn a unique new skill on the cheap? Try Brooklyn Brainery, hosting collaborative and experimental  group classes, or as they say, like a “book club on steroids.” The groups has hosted classes on everything from Microwave Candy to Lamp Making. More than Sip-Worthy: Palo Cortado

I think we all need a go-to wine and tapas spot. Luckily Palo Cortado has us covered. A Carroll Gardens newbie, the warm and comfortable Spanish-style eatery is serving up scrumptious small plates and more than sip-worthy vino. Whether you want to munch on something hot (tapas caliente) or something cold (tapas fria), you have some fine choices. Try the poached shrimp in green sauce with avocado and crispy choirzo, or the fried potatoes with aioli and rioja sauce. Just want a snack? The marinated olives and the honey roasted almonds pair well with any wine selection.
